Setup guide

How to install IPTV on a Smart TV (Samsung, LG, Android).

Installing IPTV on a Smart TV is not one process, it is three. Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, and Android-based Smart TVs (Sony, Hisense, TCL, Philips) each take a different app and a slightly different path. The good news, none of them need a PC, a USB stick, or sideloading. The bad news, all three Samsung and LG paths need you to upload your M3U URL to the app vendor's portal first using your TV's MAC address. Below is the exact route for each brand, the app we recommend on each, and the one mistake that breaks the setup on every TV made after 2022.

At a glance

Setup time
10 minutes (Samsung, LG). 5 minutes (Android TV).
App we recommend
Smart STB on Samsung and LG. IPTV Smarters Pro on Android TVs.
Difficulty
Easy on Android. Medium on Samsung and LG (portal upload).
What you need
OTTV login, the TV's MAC address, the Wi-Fi the TV is on.

Pick your Smart TV brand first.

This page splits into three setups. Skip to yours.

Not sure which OS your TV runs? Open Settings and look at the About screen. Tizen, webOS, and Android TV all name themselves there.

Why Samsung and LG need a portal upload.

Samsung Tizen and LG webOS do not allow IPTV apps to accept a long M3U URL on the TV remote, because typing it on a TV keyboard is a punishment. So the apps (Smart STB, SS IPTV, Smart IPTV) work in two parts. The app on the TV reads from a fixed URL based on the TV's MAC address. You upload your M3U URL to the vendor's portal once, paired to that MAC. Every time the app opens, it pulls the current playlist from the portal.

The MAC address acts as your account ID. You type the M3U on a real keyboard (phone or laptop), the TV picks it up. Three to five minutes total. Once it works, you never touch the portal again.

Samsung·Tizen OS

Samsung Tizen TV setup.

Works on Samsung Smart TVs from 2016 onward (Tizen 2.4+). Tested on Q60, Q70, Q80, QN85 series and the 2024 OLED models.

Step 1. Find your TV's MAC address

  1. On the remote, press the Home button.
  2. Open Settings, then General, then Network.
  3. Pick Network Status, then IP Settings.
  4. Look for MAC address (Wi-Fi MAC if you are on wireless, Wired MAC if on Ethernet).
  5. Write it down. Format looks like AA:BB:CC:11:22:33.

The MAC you need is the one for the connection the TV is actually using. If you switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet later, you may need to re-upload.

Step 2. Install the IPTV app

Open the Samsung Smart Hub (the apps row at the bottom), search for one of these and install:

  • Smart IPTV (SIPTV) if your TV is from 2016 to 2020. Free 7-day trial, then a one-time activation of around €5.49.
  • Smart STB if Smart IPTV is missing from your region's store. Around €5 a year.

Both apps are listed in the Samsung Apps store. If neither is available in your country (some regions blocked them in 2022 to 2023), Smart STB has an alternative version called Smart STB IPTV Player that is usually still listed.

Step 3. Open the app and copy the MAC it shows

On first launch the app displays its own MAC address and a portal URL on the screen. Compare this MAC to the one you wrote down. They should match. Take a phone photo of this screen if it helps.

Step 4. Upload your OTTV M3U on the portal

On your phone or laptop:

  1. Open the portal that matches your app:
    • Smart IPTV: siptv.app/mylist
    • Smart STB: smartstb.net
  2. Type the MAC address from the TV.
  3. Paste your OTTV M3U URL from the welcome email. If you only have the Xtream Codes set (server, username, password), build the M3U URL with the M3U to Xtream Codes converter in reverse, or message us for the M3U form.
  4. Click Add link or Send.

Step 5. Reload the app on the TV

Close the app fully (back out to the Smart Hub, not just press Home), then reopen. The channel list pulls in 20 to 60 seconds. Movies and series populate on the next tab.

If the list is empty, the M3U URL in the portal is wrong, the MAC is mismatched, or your ISP is blocking the IPTV port. Run the URL through the M3U checker before you blame the TV.

LG·webOS

LG webOS TV setup.

Works on LG Smart TVs from 2016 onward (webOS 3.0+). Tested on UJ65, NanoCell, OLED B and C series, and the 2024 G4.

Step 1. Find your TV's MAC address

  1. Press Settings on the remote.
  2. Open All Settings, then Connection (some firmware calls this Network).
  3. Pick Wi-Fi or Wired connection, depending on what the TV is using.
  4. Scroll to Advanced Wi-Fi settings or Advanced.
  5. The MAC address is at the bottom of the panel.

Older webOS hides the MAC inside Network Connection, About this TV, Device Information. If it is not under Connection, look there.

Step 2. Install the IPTV app from LG Content Store

Open LG Content Store from the home ribbon. Search for one of:

  • SS IPTV. Free, no activation fee, ad-supported. Best free option on LG.
  • Set IPTV. One-time around €5.99.
  • Smart STB. Around €5 a year, identical to the Samsung version.

SS IPTV is the most common pick on LG because it is free. Set IPTV has better EPG handling. Pick one. Switching later is a 10-minute job, not a disaster.

Step 3. Get the activation code

Open the app. On first launch it shows a code or a MAC address plus a portal URL on the screen. For SS IPTV the code is a 6-character string. For Smart STB it is the full MAC.

Step 4. Upload your OTTV M3U on the portal

Same portal step as Samsung.

  • SS IPTV: ss-iptv.com/en/users/playlist or the in-app QR code.
  • Set IPTV: set-iptv.com/list
  • Smart STB: smartstb.net

Type the code or MAC from the TV screen, paste the OTTV M3U URL, save.

Step 5. Reload the app

Press the LG back button to exit the app, reopen from the home ribbon. Channel list loads in under a minute.

Android TV·Sony, Hisense, TCL, Philips

Android TV setup.

These TVs run Android TV under the hood. No MAC upload, no portal. Just Google Play and an Xtream Codes login.

  1. Open Google Play Store from the home screen.
  2. Search for IPTV Smarters Pro. Install.
  3. Open it, accept the disclaimer.
  4. Pick Login with Xtream Codes API.
  5. Paste the server URL, username, and password from your OTTV welcome email.
  6. Click Add User.

Channel list loads in 20 to 60 seconds. The setup is identical to the Firestick walkthrough except you skip Downloader because the Play Store works directly. For the full version with troubleshooting see Set up IPTV on Android.

If your TV refuses to install IPTV Smarters Pro from the Play Store, you are on Android TV 7 or older. Sideload the APK with the Send Files to TV app instead, or install TiviMate as a backup.

Which Smart TV app to pick.

Honest comparison, no fluff.

Smart STB. The most reliable across both Samsung and LG. Costs around $5 a year per device, which is a real annoyance compared to the free Firestick option but cheaper than buying a new app every year. EPG works out of the box. Best pick for someone who wants it to just work.

SS IPTV. The free choice on LG. Limited EPG, no recording, a few ads in the menus. Fine for a secondary TV in a bedroom.

Set IPTV. Mostly an LG app, occasional Samsung support. One-time fee around €5.99. EPG is cleaner than SS IPTV. Worth it if you do not want a yearly bill.

Smart IPTV (SIPTV). Samsung's most popular option from 2016 to 2021. Still works, but the developer has been less active and some Samsung regions removed it from the store. Use Smart STB if Smart IPTV is missing.

For most users on Samsung or LG, install Smart STB first. If it does not appear in your region's app store, fall back to SS IPTV (LG) or Smart IPTV (Samsung).

Common Smart TV issues and the real fix.

App is missing from the store.
Samsung removed several IPTV apps from the official Apps in certain countries (notably the UK and Italy from 2023). Workarounds: change the TV's region in Settings, or use Smart STB which is still listed almost everywhere.
MAC mismatch error on the portal.
You typed the MAC for the wrong connection (Ethernet vs Wi-Fi). Open Settings on the TV, confirm which connection is active, copy that MAC. Trailing colons matter, copy all six pairs.
Channels load but freeze every few seconds.
Smart TVs are weaker on Wi-Fi than dedicated streamers. Move the router closer or run Ethernet to the TV. The micro-USB-to-Ethernet adapter trick only works on Firesticks, on Smart TVs use the dedicated LAN port. See Fix IPTV buffering.
EPG is empty or showing wrong times.
Inside the app, EPG settings, set the time zone to your local one. Most apps default to UTC.
App opens to a black screen on Samsung Tizen 2024+.
Newer Tizen firmware needs the app re-uploaded with your current MAC. If you moved the TV to a new router (which can change the MAC on some models), re-upload the M3U on the portal.
Smart STB portal says “Account expired.”
Around $5 a year, renew on smartstb.net using the same MAC. The app keeps your channel list after renewal.
“M3U not loading” after upload.
Run the URL through the M3U checker. If it passes, the issue is the portal not the URL, contact the app vendor's support. If it fails, the URL is malformed, see Fix M3U not loading.

Three things worth doing once channels work.

Set the right time zone. Inside the IPTV app's EPG settings. Without this, every program guide entry is off by 3 to 8 hours.

Save your portal URL and MAC together. Email yourself a note. If the TV ever resets, you re-paste the same M3U to the same MAC and you are back in 60 seconds.

Multiple devices. The same OTTV login works on the Smart TV, a Firestick, a phone, and a laptop at the same time, up to the concurrent stream limit on your plan (1, 2, or 3 streams). No separate subscription per device.

Frequently asked

Which IPTV app is best for Samsung Smart TV in 2026?
Smart STB if your region has it. Smart IPTV (SIPTV) if it does not. Both cost around $5 once or per year, both work on every Tizen TV from 2016 onward, both need the M3U uploaded to a portal site using the TV's MAC.
Which IPTV app is best for LG Smart TV?
SS IPTV if you want free with basic EPG. Set IPTV if you want a one-time fee and a cleaner guide. Smart STB if you want the most stable option and do not mind around $5 a year.
Can I install IPTV Smarters Pro on a Samsung Smart TV?
No. IPTV Smarters Pro is Android only. Samsung Tizen does not run Android apps. Use Smart STB or Smart IPTV instead. On Sony, Hisense, TCL and Philips Android TVs, IPTV Smarters Pro works directly from Google Play.
Why does my Smart TV ask for the MAC address?
Because typing a 60-character M3U URL on a TV remote is a nightmare. The MAC is your account ID on the app vendor's portal. You upload the M3U once on a phone or laptop, the TV pulls it down using its MAC every time.
Is IPTV legal on Smart TVs?
The technology and the apps are legal in most countries. Legality depends on the content provider you point the app at, not the TV or the app. OTTV is a paid subscription, you are responsible for compliance with local law.
Do I need a VPN for IPTV on Smart TV?
Not for OTTV to work. Some Smart TVs (notably 2023+ Samsung and LG models) cannot run a VPN client on the TV itself. If you need a VPN, install it on the router instead.
Can I record live TV on a Smart TV using SS IPTV or Smart STB?
No. Neither app records. For DVR on a Smart TV, use a Firestick or Android box plugged into HDMI and run TiviMate Premium.
My Samsung removed Smart IPTV from the store. What now?
Switch to Smart STB. Same workflow, different vendor, available in nearly every Samsung region. If Smart STB is also missing, change the Samsung region in Settings, General, System Manager, Language to a country where it is listed (Germany works almost everywhere).
How do I update the channel list?
You do not have to. The TV app re-reads the M3U from the portal every time it opens, so when OTTV adds or removes channels, the list updates on the next launch. To force an immediate refresh, exit the app fully and reopen.
My TV says "Network connected" but the IPTV app cannot reach the server.
Two common causes. ISP-level block on the IPTV port (try the phone hotspot test). Or the TV's DNS is misconfigured. In Network settings, set DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 manually.

Prefer a Firestick instead? See Set up IPTV on Firestick. Or message support from the contact page.
